Bonjour, I am Damien 👋. I am an Assistant Professor in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Montréal, affiliated with Mila and IVADO. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher with Fanny Chevalier at the University of Toronto. I completed my PhD in the HCI Lab at the University of Waterloo where I was advised by Daniel Vogel, Edward Lank, Géry Casiez and Sylvain Malacria.
Most of my work focuses on building systems that prioritize thoughtful interaction design to effectively solve tasks. Often, this involves going beyond traditional UI and interaction seen in software today. My current research interests include (but are not limited to):
- Designing intelligent systems (see supercharging trial-and-error and DirectGPT)
- Visualizing information (see Charagraph and ChartDetective)
- Augmenting digital documents (see Chameleon, Statslator, and my PhD thesis)
